- Peptidoglycan layer is important for cell wall structural integrity
- The final step in synthesis of peptidoglycan (Transpeptidation) is fascillitated by transpeptidases (pencillin binding proteins)
- Cephalosporins competitively inhibits PBP and disrupt synthesis of peptidoglycan
- These are bactericidal agents
